Camp is over for 2025. In 2026 VYF is going on tour and there will likely not be a camp in August of 2026. Check back later to see about camp in 2027.

We have left the 2025 info here so you can get an idea what camp is all about.

Instruction at Northwest Fiddle Camp

At Northwest Fiddle Camp, you'll learn from world-class musicians in a supportive and inspiring environment. Our primary instrument classes focus on fiddle, keyboard, and accoustic guitar, with additional instrument options available depending on interest.

Choosing Your Instrument & Level

When you register, you’ll be guided through selecting the best class for your skill level. Our levels generally include:

For 2025 we will not be offering an absolute beginner course (never played before), the minimum level is 1 year of instruction.

For more information on where you fit in, check the schedule page for detailed info on classes and how to select your level.

Instrument-Specific Requirements

Fiddle: Minimum age 5, with at least one year of instruction.

Guitar: Must be able to play basic chord shapes in slow progressions.

Keyboard: Should know basic chords and be comfortable playing in D and G.

For young musicians (ages 5-7), an adult must accompany them to class. Campers under 16 must be either in a session or under the supervision of a parent/guardian at all times.

Instruction in Non-Primary Instruments

During registration, you’ll have the chance to express interest in learning other instruments beyond fiddle, keyboard, and guitar. If enough campers sign up and logistics allow, we’ll offer courses in additional instruments. These could include:

  • Mandolin
  • Accordion
  • Ukulele
  • Hand Drum
  • Other folk/traditional instruments
  • Vocal/Choral

If you’d like to learn a secondary instrument, you must bring your own unless otherwise noted in the course description.

Switching Classes

We want you to feel comfortable in your learning environment! If a class feels too easy or too challenging, you can switch:

Bringing Your Instrument & Gear

Campers must bring their own instruments, as we do not offer rentals or loaners. Please come prepared with:

If you're flying in and unable to bring a keyboard, please contact us—we may be able to arrange a loaner from the community.

No matter your skill level, Northwest Fiddle Camp is a place to grow, connect, and immerse yourself in music. We can't wait to welcome you!
